For those of you who are already here in the Resort and for our Members due to arrive in the next few days attached you will find some updates on what is available in the hotel and the resort, including the staff that are here to assist you during your holiday.

John and I have a Members meetings on Tuesday mornings at 10.30 in the Portofino Bar, and we hope you come along when you are here.

In the meantime have a read through the information I have attached and if you have any questions or queries do not hesitate to ask.

MEMBERS/SALES OFFICE (next to Il Basilico Restaurant)

The office is open from 10.00 to 16.00 every day except Saturday and Bank Holidays.  We still have books, DVD’s and puzzles available.

Clare Ext 6190: Responsible for general administration, transfers, Members Prestige cards, local information, medical assistance, booking excursions/trips, car hire etc. 

FYI:  Clare days off are Saturday & Monday.    

Sabine Ext 6182:  Responsible for general administration, including internal exchanges and maintenance fees.

FYI:  Sabine days off are Monday, Friday & Saturday.

Calling all Golfers!  Great offers at Palheiro Golf for Members! Palheiro this year is offering specific special offers just for our members, see John for details and to arrange to have a game with him on a Friday afternoon.

HOTEL INFORMATION

Here is the list of restaurants & bars currently open in the Vila Porto Mare:

Il Basilico – Open from: Lunch 12.30 to 15.00. Dinner 18.00 to 22.00

Varanda Bar – Open from daily from 10.00 to 18.00.

Atlántida – Breakfast 07.30 to 10.30 and Dinner from 18.30 to 21.30 (Buffet)

Alfama Restaurant – Open every day for Breakfast (same times as Atlántida) and Dinner (closed on Wednesday) from 18.30 to 22.00 Al a Carte service with new menu.

MED Restaurant – Reopening on Wednesday nights at 19.00 only for Meat Lovers. 

Oceana Bar – Open every day from 15.00 to 23.00 with Happy Hour from 17.00 to 18.30.

Porto Fino Bar Open from 15.00 to 23.00 with Happy Hour every day from 17.00 to 18.30. Also: Live Music every day from 20.30 – 22.30 (for more information see our website)

The Special 5 meal option:  For just €24.50 per person per meal (drinks not included) you have the option of having 4 buffet style dinners in the Atlántida restaurant and one 3 course dinner at the Alfama Restaurant.  Alternatively, you can choose the 3 meal option for just €26 per person per meal (drinks not included) this includes 2 buffet style dinners at Atlántida and one 3 course dinner at the Alfama Restaurant.

Prestige card discount on drinks only.  Please arrange any special meal deal options or normal breakfast/dinner meal deal packages with the Porto Mare reception. 

Please note that the Hotel Courtesy Bus is currently unavailable

Guest Relations:  The Hotel Tour on Monday at 15.00.

Cats – Although it is very tempting to feed the cats the Management are urging you not to feed them.

The Recycling Bins outside apartments:  Yellow – plastics/cartons/cans.  Blue – paper/card.  Green – glass. Red – organic waste

The Laundry – This is now located on the 30 floor, close to apartment #3002.  It is available from 10.00 to 17.00.  Please liaise with Porto Mare reception to arrange the tokens.  €6 for a load of washing and €2 for the tumble dryer.

Access in and out from the Residence:  

Opening Times: Sunday: 15.00 to 23.00.  Monday: 08.00 to 22.00.  Tues to Sat: 09.30 to 18.00.

The Residence front entrance can be accessed daily between 08.00 to 23.00 using your room key to enter, outside of these times you can go via the garage (car park), the door is located next to Residence reception, it is also a shortcut to the Il Basilico Restaurant. 

Locker Room: If you have a locker and need to access it, please liaise with the Porto Mare reception, they have the key.

SPA:  The Spa are offering some treatments which can be booked by contacting EXT 97.  The Sauna, Turkish Bath and Relaxation area are not available. Open daily from 09.00 to 18.00. The Sauna is now open; however, it must be pre-booked with the SPA.

Sports facilities: The Gym (open 07.00 to 21.00), Tennis Court, Mini Golf & Table Tennis are all available and can be arranged via the SPA.  Swimming pools can be used between 08.00 to 20.00 with Pool attendants from 09.00 to 18.00.  Water Aerobic Class available with Aurelio on Wednesday & Sunday at 11.00 & Fridays at 17.00.  Pilates on Tuesdays at 11.30 and Yoga on Saturdays at 11.00. Limited spaces so you need to book with the Spa

Out and About/Local Information

Supermarkets:  The Pingo Doce is open each day from 08.30 to 22.00.

Buying Fresh Milk:  Full Fat: Gordo.  Semi Skimmed: Meio Gordo.   Skimmed: Magro

Forum Shopping Centre, including the Cinema: Open from 10.00 to 22.00.

Promenade walk to Camara de Lobos:  Unfortunately, the Tunnel is closed due to the recent stormy weather/seas.

FYI:  Magic Tea House on the Promenade is open.

Local Buses:   From the Porto Mare front entrance to Funchal – No 01 & 02 Yellow Bus – Pay on the bus (exact money needed €1.95 one way or Giro cards can be purchased from the gift shop near the Lido (Sebastian’s) or the newsagent in Monumental Shopping Centre or in Funchal City Centre ticket booths.

Buses to Camara de Lobos:  Bus stop opposite PM front entrance.  Rodoeste (red/white) €2.20 one way pay on bus.

Gardens: Monte Palace Gardens & Botanical Gardens are open daily from 09.30 to 18.00. Closed on Bank Holidays

Palheiro Gardens (Blandy’s) are open Mon to Fri from 09.00 to 17.00. Closed on Bank Holidays.

Quinta Magnolia open from 07.30 to 20.00 & Santa Catarina Gardens open 07.00 to 19.00

Jasmin Tea House:  Is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 to 17.00.  The yellow city bus Nº 47 goes directly to the entrance.

Cable Car:  Cable cars from Funchal to Monte are running from 09.30 to 17.00.  Toboggan Rides in Monte are doing normal trips during the weekdays and Saturday morning.  Not operational during Bank Holidays.

Restaurants:  Most restaurants in the Lido area, City Centre, Marina and Old Town are open for business.  We would recommend pre-booking your tables especially in some of your favorite restaurants. 

Fruit & Veg Market (Mercado dos Lavradores) Open Mon to Fri: 08.00 to 19.00.  Sat: 07.00 to 14.00. Closed Sunday & Bank Holidays.

CONCERTS:   Open air concerts (weather permitting) held in the English Church Gardens, tickets can be purchased on the day at the door. Address is: Rua do Quebra Costa, 18. Funchal.  Concerts usually last 1 hour & 15 minutes.

Monday – Violin Classic Concert. Held at 18.00. Tickets are €12.50. 

Tuesday – Jazz-Fest with soloists and guests improvising on jazz guitar, violin & double bass playing Django Reinhardt, Sinatra, Nat King Cole & Brubeck. Held at 18.00. Tickets are €17.50.

Wednesday & Sunday – Virtuoso & Gypsy Violin with Andras & Andre. Carmen, Fiddler on the Roof, Loves Joy.  Held at 18.00. Tickets are €15.

Thursday – The Beatles songs with Classic orchestra quartet.  Held at 18.00. Tickets are €17.50

Friday – “Legendary Rock”. Classic Orchestra quartet with Robin Hird on electric guitar playing Rock, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, U2, Queen etc. Tickets €17.50 at 18.00.

Saturday – “Ragtime” with brass soloists, piano & violin playing old Jazz themes.  Held at 14.00. Tickets €17.50.

Sunday – Waltz & Tango at 15.00. Violin & Piano.  Tickets €15.00

Student Concerts in PortoBay:  Bar Lido in the Porto Mare at 17.30 on the 24^th February 2022 – “Gentle Guitar Sounds” (Guitar recital). 

Mandolin Concerts: Price of ticket €20 pp.

19^th Feb: held in the Vida Mar “Sunrise” room at 9pm. 

25^th Feb: held in the Assembleia Legislative Madeira at 9pm.
