Maritimo FC

Madeira's Best

Maritimo are Madeira's premier team traditionally, however for 2024/25 they will be playing for the second year in the 2nd division whilst Nacional will be claiming big team rights in the top league.

The season starts in August. If you are planning ahead, game times and even dates can change up to 2 weeks before due to television.

Games are very easy to get to as the stadium is within walking distance, just up from Reids. It's around 25 minutes walk from Vila Porto Mare and whilst the easiest route to visualise is walk to Reids, turn left up hill and walk all the way up.

Tickets can generally be bought easily from their two shops, by the stadium and by the cable car. Prices are €5 behind the goals and €15 in the middle or €30 gets you padded seats up beside Corporate. For any questions about seating or just to ask him to get you the tickets, far easier , pop into the Members office in The Residence Reception and ask for John.

Things to know

Whilst its okay to take food and drinks into the stadium, the one No-No is bottles with tops, including refillable water bottles. You will be asked to dispose of the top so avoid.

Inside the stadium, the bars are cheap, selling non alcoholic beer and water for €1 as well as soft drinks, basic sandwiches and crisps. They tend to be quite before kickoff and very busy at half time so it's best to stock up.

Outside the stadium is a fanzone which is open for a couple of hours before the game, selling cheap beer and softdrinks, burgers and sandwiches.

Traditional colours are Red and Green, after the Portuguese flag. Away strips can be worn at home games to avoid clashes and are Green or Red, but they also have a white one. If you want to buy a strip or scarf or mug or pen, there is a shop at the stadium, open Monday to Saturday, and also one opposite the cable car.

Don't emphasise the tim bit as teem. It's not Mari - teemo, its simply Ma-ri-tim-o.

Ronaldo didn't play for them. I know there is a big Ronaldo cutout in the cable car shop but he was at Nacional at a young age. Most famous player instead would be Pepe.

If you want to follow them back home, its not so easy to watch the games live.SportTV's Youtube channel tends to have highlights of every game.

Nacional da Madeira

Back in the top league so might have to make this section bigger. Its an expensive €50 taxi or a bus and a long walk.
